ARIZONA AUTOMOBILE THEFT AUTHORITY RELEASES 2024 ANNUAL REPORT
Phoenix, AZ – The Arizona Automobile Theft Authority (AATA) Division of the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI) released its Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Annual Report highlighting the AATA’s activities and accomplishments.
The report includes state and national vehicle theft trends, statistics, and highlights for calendar year 2023 (CY23) and FY24 including:
- For CY23, Arizona reported a 9.2% decrease in the vehicle theft rate compared to CY22. Arizona’s theft rate of 268 vehicles stolen for every 100,000 residents places Arizona 19th among other states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.
- System enhancements to Arizona’s Auto Crime Tracking (ACT) database are underway to improve system functionality and reporting accuracy.
- Over $5.8 million was awarded in FY24 for AATA grant programs, including the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force, which recovered 2,050 stolen vehicles valued at $43.6 million and made nearly 400 felony arrests.
- The AATA saw continued outreach success on social media, with a 24.6% increase in LinkedIn followers over the past year and a significant 64.8% increase in Facebook reach. These numbers reflect the growing impact of the AATA’s digital engagement efforts, helping disseminate critical vehicle theft prevention information to a wider audience.
“While even one auto theft in Arizona is too many, the reduced thefts in Arizona is very encouraging,” said James McGuffin, Assistant Director of the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. “Arizona’s auto theft decreases for calendar year 2024 are on track to be even better."
